The Wellington Academy will be a centre of learning for the whole community and will build strong links with local learning organisations and businesses.

The Wellington Academy will be one that focuses on the needs of, and is rooted in, the local community. It will provide extended school facilities through a wide range of opportunities for those not attending the school Students and adults will be able to learn through classes during the day or evening, or courses held during the holidays if and when  boarding is available, taster days for primary schools, introduction language courses for primary feeder schools, conferences and courses for local businesses and use of sports and drama/performance facilities.

The Wellington Academy will continue to make available the on-site leisure facilities that the community currently enjoys including the fitness suite, bowling green, squash courts and external play space.. in

The Principal Designate has been appointed. Andy Schofield, currently Headteacher at Varndean School has accepted the post starting September 2008. Andy will establish the new Academy for 12 months prior to its opening in September 2009.

HRH The Duke of York has agreed to become President of The Wellington Academy.
