New York Trip 2017

On Thursday 9th February, twenty 6th Form students embarked upon a journey to the Big Apple – New York City. Despite multiple weather delays, we finally arrived at JFK Airport and were greeted by a snowy, crisp night. After making our way to the hostel and dropping our bags off, we popped over to a pizzeria across the street and realised their ‘mediums’ are a lot larger.

After a long awaited sleep, we walked through the city up to Macy’s – the largest store in the world. We were treated to a behind the scenes Macy’s tour where we learnt about all areas of the business from operations to marketing. We then headed to the top of the Rockefeller Centre to take in some breath taking views of Central Park and Manhattan. Later in the day, we ventured over to Brooklyn on the Subway to eat at a BBQ restaurant before heading to the Barclays Centre. We took our seats to watch the Brooklyn Nets surrender a strong advantage to the Miami Heat, in a very entertaining match.

The next morning, we caught the boat to the Statue of Liberty to snap some terrific pictures and get up close with the statue itself. Next, we had the moving experience of going to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Museum. It was a very powerful experience for all. We then went over to Wall Street for walk around the financial district.

In the evening, we marched over to the bright lights of the stunning Times Square. We were able to grab some great shots of the iconic screens and shops surrounding the square. For our evening meal, we went to the world-famous Hard Rock Café and enjoyed the trademark atmosphere on offer along with the good food.

When Sunday rolled around, we took another trip on the Subway to the American Museum of Natural History. We all got the chance to look at some huge fossils and really enjoyed the planetarium experience. We then had some free time to look around the sights and shops of New York, including many designer shops on Fifth Avenue, Times Square and the incredible Trump Tower.

That evening, we travelled to the Empire State Building before enjoying a fabulous meal at Planet Hollywood.

On our last day, we had some free time for some shopping and gift buying before getting to the airport and flying home.

We arrived safely home on Valentine’s morning. The trip really was an amazing experience and one which I will remember for ever.
