This month saw the first of many STEM activities being run in the science department. We welcomed 60 yr6 students from local primary schools to encourage their love of science. Students took part in a range of small practical activities run by year 8 & 9 students who were chosen for their passion and enthusiasm for science. The primary students had a fantastic time getting involved in interesting questions, such as ‘How do butterflies drink?’, ‘Why do snails and slugs need slime?’ and ‘Why do leaves change colour in the autumn?’
It was fantastic to see all of the students investigating these topics and working together to uncover new ideas and knowledge. This day will be followed up with Science Junior Masterclasses, as well as the annual Wellington Academy Science Fair set to take place 14th March 2018, during British Science Week.
