On Tuesday the 27th I had the honour of being invited to be part of a Youth Panel for Diversity Role Models and EY (Ernst and Young) Unity as part of an evening dedicated to LGBT History Month. The theme of the night was ‘past, present and future’, with the youth panel representing the future for LGBT inclusivity and awareness. As part of the panel myself and the other two panellists, CJ, a 19 year old trans guy, and Sultana, a Muslim feminist, discussed LGBT awareness among the youth and in education as well as the benefits and dangers of the Internet and social media for young LGBT individuals. After the panel discussion the audience was able to ask questions and this lead to CJ and me speaking about out coming out process and how we approach speaking to younger people about gender and sexuality. It was an astonishing opportunity and definitely not something I will forget.
