Duke of Wellington Visit

On Monday 5th March, the 9th Duke of Wellington visited the Academy for the first time since its opening. Wellington College our sponsor, was founded as a memorial to the first Duke of Wellington who famously commanded the allied forces against Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.

During his visit he had a full tour of the academy.  He popped into Y12 and Y9 leadership lessons, inspected out CCF unit, chatted with our Deputy head boy and newly elected member of Wiltshire youth parliament, had a mini tour of the boarding house, visited DukeBox radio station and finally ended the morning with a sit down session with the senior leadership team and Kyle and Jade our head boy and head girl.

The Duke expressed how pleased he was to visit and was overwhelmed by the excellent facilities and opportunities our pupils at the Academy have. He was particularly impressed with the high proportion of young people who go off to the top universities and the life changing programmes our post 18 pupils participate in as a result of our links to Wellington College namely Momentum and the China internship.
