Service Pupil Premium at our school

What is the Service Pupil Premium?

The Department for Education introduced the Service pupil premium (SPP) in April 2011 in recognition of the specific challenges children from service families face and as part of the commitment to delivering the armed forces covenant.

State schools, academies and free schools in England, which have children of service families in school years reception to year 11, can receive the SPP funding. It is designed to assist the school in providing the additional support that these children may need and is currently worth £310 per service child who meets the eligibility criteria.

How we intend to use service pupil premium at The Wellington Academy:
  • Our SPSG group and activities are funded by SPP.

  • Pastoral trips, particularly for children of deployed parents.

  • Groups and group activities for SPP Children.

  • A residential trip at the beginning of the year, for team building and engagement.

  • A monthly meet and greet for military units and other external military agencies, to ensure we are delivering the best for our service children and families. Hopefully we will be able to open this up to an informal coffee morning for all those affected by military life to join.
