The Wellington Academy 6th Form is unique. As well as excellent grades in a range of subjects in both A-Level and BTEC options, we offer an outstanding range of extra opportunities that you will not find anywhere else.
The ethos of the 6th Form is ‘limitless aspiration’; we spend a lot of time ensuring that students not only succeed to the best of their ability in subjects of their choice, but they leave us at the end of year 13 having had the opportunities to experience programmes designed to both enhance their future choice prospects, and also develop as a young adult ready for the world beyond school.
The 6th Form has grown in strength each year. Our results improve year on year, and the number of opportunities increase also. Student feedback is very positive, with all students rating the department as being very supportive and effective in this support. Whilst our numbers are increasing each year, we are still a small enough 6th form to be able to offer personal support and guidance and bespoke curricular plans. A common theme in feedback is the ‘family atmosphere’.
Students leave us to greater things at the end of year 13. Last year for example, every single student left to a destination of their choice, be it higher apprenticeships, university, or employment; over 70% of students chose university as their destination and these choices included Russell Group universities.
We also work closely with our school sponsor; Wellington College, and this link provides some of the opportunities that would not normally be accessible to state schools. As we are a boarding school, we have a healthy number of boarder students, and this increases the diversity of the student body and leads to opportunities to develop cultural awareness and increases the richness of classroom discussions.
We hope you have a look through the rest of the department pages; if you would like to come in for a look around or experience the school in action, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I chose Wellington 6th form because of the wide range of subjects. Being a part of 6th form also means we know every teachers name and we have the opportunity to get to know younger years and be a part of their learning. We get to mentor and be role models to younger year groups which you would not get in a college. The fantastic links with The Wellington College means we get plenty of opportunities such as a China internship, Momentum and personal development courses held in other countries such as Romania. I have been at Wellington since year 7, and study Physics, Maths and History. I hope to become an Aeronautical Engineer, and will be applying to a Russell Group University.
I chose Wellington 6th form because it is like a family as the 6th form is fairly small. This means you get more a focus from the teachers and have time for one to one teaching. Being a part of sixth form allows you to get know everybody in year 12 and 13 really well, as well as building a strong relationship with teachers to ensure you get the most out of you studies. Our pastoral team also ensures we always have someone to talk to with, a door that is always open if we are ever struggling or need some extra help. I have been here since year 7, and am currently studying History, Economics, and Sociology. Next year I hope to be studying Midwifery at University.
