Uniform

Uniform changes that will come into effect from September 2026.  

These changes have been made following a review of our current uniform and recent feedback from our Parent, Student and Staff surveys, to ensure it remains practical, smart, and reflective of our school values. 

The new uniform will be compulsory for all Year 7 students starting in September 2026. Students in other year groups can continue to wear their current uniform until they grow out of it.  

From September 2026 students will also be required to come to school in the correct PE kit on days where they have either PE or Dance, due to the renovation of the sports centre. 

A full list of the revised uniform requirements is below, including guidance on approved suppliers, and purchasing information.  If you have any questions or require support, particularly in relation to sourcing items, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. 

All items of uniform are compulsory and should be clearly marked. 

Compulsory school uniform items including jumpers, school skirts, and PE kit must be purchased via our uniform supplier listed below, other items of uniform can be purchased individually from other retailers or supermarkets.

School Uniform

New Uniform – Students starting from September 2026

  • Black Wellington Academy embroidered sweatshirt with the school logo and house name.
  • White pole shirt.
  • Black school trousers/tartan skirt (trousers must be full length, straight from the knee downwards; no skinny jeans, denim, patch pockets, double side seams or studded pockets)
  • Black leather trainers (no coloured markings or fabric) or Black school schoes.

Current Uniform – Student who started prior to September 2026 (unless adopting the new uniform)

  • Black Wellington Academy Blazer with the school badge.
  • Whit school shirt (suitable for wearing with a tie).
  • House tie (required when wearing trousers not school skirt).
  • Black school trousers/tartan skirt (trousers must be full length, straight from the knee downwards; no skinny jeans, denim, patch pockets, double side seams or studded pockets)
  • Black school shoes

Sports and PE Wear

  • Black/Sky Blue Wellington Academy PE polo shirt 
  • Black Wellington Academy PE shorts or skort (optional)

  • Plain black shorts of reasonable length (not Nike pro)
  • Black tracksuit bottoms (no logos)
  • Black sports leggings (no logos)

Being Equipped for Learning

  • School bag, suitable for A4 size books
  • Tools for Learning (TfL)
    • 1x Pencil Case (clear, exam style)
    • 2x Black Pens
    • 1x Green Pen

  • Additional equipment: scientific calculator
  • individual subjects may require additional equipment
  • It is very important that students have the correct equipment with them. Successful learning will often be dependent upon this. If students forget to bring equipment, appropriate sanctions may be applied.
  • Some TfL items can also be purchased at the Academy
  • The Wellington Academy provides one set of Tools for Learning (TfL) to each student at the beginning of the year. When equipment runs out it is the students responsibility to replace it, so that their TfL is always complete.

Regulations Concerning Make-up, Hair and Jewellery

Make-up  

  • Make-up must be natural and discreet including eyelashes.

Nail Polish

  • Nail polish must be natural and not brightly coloured, patterned or displaying adornments.
  • Nail extensions are not permitted.

Jewellery

  • for health and safety reasons, earrings must be simple stud earrings only; hoops and dangling earrings are not permitted. If students choose to wear other jewellery, it must be discreet and appropriate for the school environment, and must not interfere with learning, participation in school activities, or present a health and safety risk.

Outer wear/layered clothing

  • Pupils may wear a dark coloured winter coat (ideally with reflective stripes) to and from school and whilst outside. However, it must be removed when inside any of the buildings. Students are not permitted to wear their coats when moving between lessons within the building.
  • No hats or caps are to be worn inside whilst in uniform.
  • School PE hoodie must only be worn for PE lessons.
  • Any clothing worn under uniform (eg T-shirt) should not be visible.

Shoes

  • Black school shoes or black trainers must be worn when wearing uniform and these must be black, sensible, plain, leather low-heeled footwear (no boots, sandals, Crocs, cloth or canvas shoes of any type). They should not have any alternative colour or coloured markings.
