6th Form Courses and Curriculum
The Wellington Academy 6th Form Curriculum
At Wellington we offer a range of both A-Levels and BTECs. Students would typically chose three subjects, but a number do opt to start with four. Some BTECs are on offer as a ‘double’, and if this option is chosen then that subject would take account for two of the three possible choices.
It is also perfectly possible to mix BTECs and A-Levels. For example a student may opt to study Double Health & Social Care (Diploma) with A-Level Psychology. Alternatively they may chose single Health & Social Care (extended certificate), with A-Level Psychology and BTEC Child Development for example.
Any student not achieving a grade 4 or higher in English Language or Maths GCSE or equivalent is required by law to re-sit these until a grade 4 is achieved. We offer a resit programme to support this.
For a quick rundown on all courses offered, please take a look at our 6th Form Course List below.
Entry Criteria
Entry to Wellington 6th Form is by application form and interview. We interview each applicant to ensure that they have had appropriate guidance in terms of subject choice and we are the right choice for them. Whist we accept students on a case-by-case basis, the general criteria are:
- 5 GCSE’s at grades 9-5 including English and Maths for A-Levels
- 5 GCSE’s at grades 9-4 including English and Maths for BTEC’s
Every year we welcome a number of international students. Entry for these students is also by application and interview (can be done by Skype). Entry grades should be equivalent or as close as possible to those listed above.
As well as subjects, we also offer a full support programme. Information, Guidance, and Support (IAG) runs weekly for all students, and each student is allocated a tutor who they keep in regular contact with through the week. Further enrichment opportunities are outlined under the relevant tab heading.

Please note that the following list comprises potential courses available. We can not guarantee that all of the courses will run. Numbers opting for subjects, timetabling constraints and local and national developments may result in changes in the curriculum choices we can offer. We give all students a free choice of subjects and then block the courses accordingly to allow for maximum satisfaction.
